How is HealthCARE Montana impacting the citizens of the Big Sky state?

Student Testimonials

The mental and physical support from my career coach has made such a huge difference in my life. I would have never known all this was possible without her. She came with me to the Job Service which led to getting my education paid for and she is always there when I need her.
— Debora R.
The Healthcare Montana Program was instrumental in helping me get back into school to finish my degree. By working with local health care facilities and academic institutions, Healthcare Montana provides many opportunities for people looking to advance their careers into health care fields without having to relocate. The advisors and specialists with the Healthcare Montana Program are phenomenal. They stayed with me from the very beginning when I was trying to decide on which career path to take, down to helping me find scholarships and grants. They were so attentive and check in often; I never felt like I was just left to figure things out on my own. Healthcare Montana Program is a great success and I am excited to see it continue to grow and reach out to more communities in Montana.
— Johnna R.
She (Eva Oruste, SKC) is the reason I was able to start my career as a nurse and I felt very lucky to have her help me though that process and get everything straightened out.
— Amanda H.
I can’t convey well enough what this program has done for me...Before the grant came along there wasn’t anything offered locally. Our community is in dire need of this.
— Elizabeth
HealthCARE Montana had a positive impact on me and was helpful in determining what healthcare career options are available. In addition, it was able to point me in the right direction as to where and whom to talk to.

Employer Testimonials

My biggest challenge is growing my own workforce and finding people with a like-minded desire to work. I am no longer the youngest person on the staff and I find myself needing to understand better the behaviors of the new generation. HealthCARE MT gives me additional resources to provide essential skills that would help an employee go from mediocre to excellent. HealthCARE MT also gives me an opportunity to have someone trained by individuals other than the current staff, which would offer a different perspective. Recruiting a fully-prepared employee is very difficult, but knowing I have HealthCARE MT resources available is reassuring.
— Ryan Tooke, CEO, Rosebud Health Care Center - Forsyth, MT
It is exciting to see the changes that HealthCARE Montana has assisted our facility with. We are working towards training our community members to become healthcare workers. This will be a great advantage for our community. NEMHS employs many health care workers who travel for other areas to work in our facilities. They are not members of our community and often lack the commitment we are looking for. Working with HealthCARE Montana is assisting us to train and retain health care workers from our community who will be committed to our facility.
— Jo Ann Hibl, VP of Senior & Long Term Care, Northeast Montana Health Service - Wolf Point, MT
The ideas we have developed because of our conversations with HealthCARE MT staff had allowed us to advance to a point where we currently do not require CNA traveling staff to meet the needs of our residents. These ideas are reproducible at any location in rural America. It is this kind of out of the box thinking that is going to keep rural facilities viably staffed into the future.
— Christen Obresley, Administrator, Northern MT Care Center - Havre, MT
HealthCARE Montana walked me through each step and answered any and all of my questions that I had setting up and finalizing our apprentice program. HealthCARE Montana provided our small facility that is located in a small community with the tools to access resources statewide.
— JoAnne Heppler, Administrator, Mountain View Care Center - Ronan, MT

Faculty Testimonials

I talked to some of the RN students and the biggest thing the grant provided was the new curriculum. In the old curriculum they had to do the PN first and then reapply to the RN program. They feel that making the programs two separate programs made it easier to meet their goal of getting an RN degree mainly because they don’t have to reapply. They felt it provides a smoother path to get their RN degree.
— Susan Floyd, Director of Nursing, City College - Billings, MT
I have had the opportunity to work with Carly and Emily on a few projects, most notably our Computed Tomography (CT) education and apprenticeship programs. They did virtually all the outreach and background work that made it possible to begin the state’s first apprenticeship in CT (at Clark Fork Valley Hospital). This groundbreaking effort has the potential to benefit students and rural healthcare facilities alike, and it is only possible because of their commitment and follow through.I have had the opportunity to work with Carly and Emily on a few projects, most notably our Computed Tomography (CT) education and apprenticeship programs.
